Waterproofing your Cement Pond

Water Proofing Your Cement Pond
Gunite, Shotcrete, cement pour or block wall.
Proper concrete pouring is best done by a professional and all attention must be paid to adequate rebar and cement thickness and proper engineering.

1) Smooth Coat

After concrete is set, wait 3 to 7 days Apply plastic cement with 50% silica sand application 1/8” thick to seal all the cracks in the concrete or gunite shell. ( Smooth Coat )

Float the smooth coat so the silica sand comes to the surface as this will allow better adhesion of your waterproofing.

2) Allow concrete and smooth coat to to dry slowly for 28 days minimum.

Wet the surface daily to allow a slow cure.
After 28 days, use a very dilute acid etch on the SB; 50% water to 50% acid. Apply to pond surface with a push broom and only allow the acid etch to sit on the surface for 10 to 15 seconds and rinse off with fresh water. This is easiest with 2 people. One push brooms the acid and the other person hoses down with fresh water. Suck the acid water from the pond floor with a sump pump or wet dry vacuum. Let the pond go completely bone dry before applying the Super Blockade in OPTION # 1.
OPTION # 1 Application of Super Blockade.
Super Blockade is a cementitious water proof compound powder. Mix properly with water and a slow drill mixer to a smooth pancake batter consistency per directions on the bag. Wet the surface of pond before applying SB. Apply the Super Blockade which has an acrylic binder and acts as the waterproof membrane. Use a cement brush and apply like a trowel in one direction only not back and forth like paint. Note: application to be in four super thin coats of approximately 1.25 pounds per square yard with a 12 hour dry time between coats. Total application is 5 pounds per square yard. ( 3ft x 3 ft area )
After final Super Blockade coat is dry, wet the surface once in the morning and once in the evening for three days to allow Super Blockade to cure slowly. Then let the Super Blockade dry for three additional days. This will complete the Super Blockade application.
OPTION #2 Prep for Pond Armor.
Use a very dilute acid etch on the SB; 50% water to 50% acid. Let the pond go completely bone dry before applying the Pond Armor.
Apply Pond Armor.
Pond Armor is a two part epoxy which gives a smooth surface and helps to block out high pH from the concrete wall. It is available in black color. Apply per direction with a paint brush or roller. One coat is sufficient. Follow drying time per directions on product label.
